Stephan Cohen, former associate professor in the School of Education at Lesley University and Provincetown year-round resident, is an author, modern dancer, and historian. He holds a doctorate from Harvard University School of Education and wrote the academic work The Gay Liberation Youth Movement in New York: "An Army of Lovers Cannot Fail." Currently, with support from a Provincetown Community Compact grant, Stephan is researching the long-lost seasonal wintertime fishing encampment known as Helltown. This compelling chapter of Cape Cod history will be revealed to locals and visitors alike in his upcoming book, tentatively titled Helltown: Provincetown's Fabled Fishing Outpost—An Urban Legend Unmasked. As a performer, Stephan has danced with numerous modern dance companies and most recently participated in a community-based project by New York City's Site-Specific Dance. The collaboration culminated in a windswept performance on Provincetown's back shore at Race Point Beach.
